Mrs Phillip’s Story Chair

This year saw the very sad loss of our lovely Nursery Assistant, Mrs Philips. We purchased a storytelling chair in her memory and the children have loved using it this week. We are awaiting a plaque and will have more photographs of the chair when this comes.

We would like to say a huge welcome to Mrs Kelly Somerville, who has joined us in the office as our new administrative assistant.

The whole school had a wonderful time at the pantomime and everyone was really well behaved. Well done everyone.

Whole School Carol Concert

On Thursday 16th December, Year 1 to 6 sang Christmas Carols for the parents on the playground. The children did really learning lots of carols and sang beautifully. We had a massive turn out of parents and would like to say a big ‘Thank you’ to parents for their support.

Reception and Nursery Nativity

On Monday 13th December we welcomed parents in to school to see the reception and nursery classes perform ‘A Wriggly Nativity’. The children were fantastic with incredible singing and performing. Here are some photos of the children in their costumes.

Year 3 Community Nativity

On Friday 10th December, Year 3 took part in the community nativity at the Bishop King Centre. The children wrote prayers and read them aloud. Here are our prayers.

What have we been learning?

This term our topic has been Let’s Celebrate!

We have looked at and compared similarities and differences in celebrations including Halloween, Bonfire Night Diwali and Christmas. For Bonfire Night the children created glitter firework pictures and to celebrate Diwali the children used clay to make Diva Lamps, they used chalk and coloured rice to create Rangoli patterns.

During the weeks celebrating Christmas the children used stick puppets to retell the story ‘The Nativity’ as well as performing in their own ‘Wriggly Nativity’. They have been really busy in the role play area, (Santa’s Workshop) wrapping Christmas presents and writing labels for the presents. The children have enjoyed making Christmas cards, baking cakes and decorating them with a snowman on top.

Mrs Bradley

It has been a fantastic last week of term and we have enjoyed all of the festive activities in our class. In our R.E. lessons, we have explored the Christmas story and after discussing the thoughts and feelings of Mary at each stage of the story, we analysed various artist’s interpretations of her. After a great discussion, we created our own copies of the ‘Dalit Madonna’ by Jyoti Sahi. We have also completed a Christmas storyboard and learnt about the Feast of Epiphany. We had a great time at the pantomime, playing games at our Christmas party and singing Christmas Carols.
