Message from Miss Emson

Another successful week has flown by.  There are lots of bugs and seasonal colds going around at the moment so please remember if your child has been off with a sickness bug that they must not come back to school for at least 48 hours after they have stopped being sick.  As the weather is turning colder, please ensure children have a coat for outside, especially in the likelihood of rain. We would like as many children as possible to use a school book bag to bring in their reading books and diaries as reading is one of our school priorities and we really want to raise the profile and importance of reading. Thank you to those who have joined us on our Twitter journey.  Keep watching out for announcements and don’t forget to tweet us if your child receives a postcard this weekend!  @PrimaryGreat

Mrs Norman

As you know, Mrs Norman has been supporting Ermine Primary Academy in Lincoln since the summer term. We are letting you know that Mrs. Norman has accepted the permanent position of Headteacher at that school. Mrs. Norman has been at Great Coates School for many years and her commitment to the children of our school and the community has seen the school improve over time to being a school which the children love attending and where they feel safe, valued, and happy.  I am sure that you will join us in wishing Mrs. Norman every success in her new school.

What have we been learning this week?

Miss Winn

Our topic this term is: What if we used music not words to tell a story? We are currently looking at the play script of ‘The Litter Muncher’.

The children have been learning a lot about the story line, characters and setting. They have been doing drama and learning the songs from the playscript. We have spent the last couple of weeks learning the script before we begin writing this as a story.

The children have been designing their own litter muncher based on a description in the script by painting and using ICT software.

Nursery and Reception

Our topic this term is Me, You and Everyone and we have been studying the artist Pablo Picasso and how he looks at himself and creates self portraits. We looked closely at ourselves in particular our features and created Picasso inspired portraits, using media and materials such as playdough, paints and printing. We have asked our parents/carers to send in photographs of their family members and the children have created frames to put these in.

If your child’s class is not on here, do not worry, more information will be sent out on the next newsletter.
