Message from Miss Emson

This is our last newsletter of the term.  I want to say how thrilled I am with the efforts and attitudes of our whole school community.  Everyone has worked so hard since Christmas and the term has flown by.  Thank you for the turn out this week for our parents’ consultations – we’ve felt the process has been very beneficial overall.  The first half of the next half term will see year 2 and year 6 children sit their SATS tests.  Attendance is paramount due to curriculum coverage.  More information will follow for these year groups the first week back.  Thank you to all of you for supporting the children with their ‘eggcellent’ egg scenes/ideas.  All entries will receive a chocolate gift when we return after Easter and a winner from each class was awarded a prize too. Please see Twitter for photographs of the fabulous entries.
I want to wish you all a safe and happy Easter break and look forward to seeing you all for the summer term on 20th April.

Emma Emson

New Pupils

We have had many new children in to school and we would like to welcome them and hope they are settling in.

In school, we share information via the school newsletter, texts, email and the occasional paper letter. It is very important that we have an up to date phone number and email address.

We also use Class Dojo. This is a mobile app which was set up during lockdowns for the children to learn remotely. Some teachers still use the app to share information about the class. Your teacher will have set up an account for your child if they are using it. You will get an email notification asking you to join Class Dojo, if your class use Class Dojo.

Not all teachers use Class Dojo as we have started using Twitter this year to share what is happening in school. Please scroll to the bottom of the newsletter to find the whole school Twitter page and individual class pages.

Sports Leaders

In the summer term, pupils will start running lunchtime sports clubs to engage all of our children in being active under the supervision of Miss Coulman, Miss Deans and Mr Claasen. After an application process, the following children have been chosen as our Y5 sports leaders: Ellie B, Emmi B, Lily-Belle O, Alyssa B, Sophie J, William H, Bobby B, Logan W, Laim S, Warren J. Well done.

Safeguarding and Well-being

Compass Go

School are working in partnership with Compass Go (Mental Health Support Team) to support the wellbeing of children, young people and their families.
Compass Go are a new mental health support team who will be working together with your school to help support children and young people’s emotional wellbeing.  As part of this support, they will be looking at how they can help parents/carers to understand the types of mental health and emotional wellbeing difficulties their children may encounter and how best to support them.
They would really appreciate your views on what support you would find helpful, please click the following link to express your views regarding this matter –

Parking on Yellow Lines

Please can we remind parents that is is against the law to stop on the yellow lines in front of school. It creates hazards for children and parents entering and leaving the school grounds and causes congestion around the school. We have a large car park, which can be accessed through John Whitgift Academy.

Riding Bikes in School

Please can children come off their bikes and scooters within school grounds to avoid accidents.

Earrings – No earrings except small studs are allowed in school. We have had a small number of children with hoop earrings in school. These present a Health and Safety risk to the children. If we deem that your child’s earrings are unsafe we will ask the child to remove them or telephone parents to ask them to remove them. No jewellery is to be worn in school.

No earrings are to be worn for PE. Pupils will be asked to remove earrings for PE or they can not do it.

If you are getting your child’s ears pierced, please get them done during the summer holidays so they can take part in PE lessons.

Below are our expectations on uniform which will also serve as a reference throughout the year.
