Message from Miss Emson

Yet another week has flown by and we’re almost ready for our Easter break. We’ve seen a turn in the weather which has been lovely and means the children have had some much needed sunshine.
Please can I take this opportunity to remind you that even though we’ve changed the weather, uniform expectations remain the same.
There have been a few issues with social media this week in school so a separate email has been sent regarding this.  There is usually a feature each week on the newsletter about e-safety and it’s retweeted regularly on the school’s twitter page.

Please remember, next week we have the ‘egg’citing egg competition if children want to create an ‘egg’ scene.  Information was sent in a separate letter two weeks ago.
Our football team just lost out in the quarter finals to playing against all other schools.  They were incredible and represented the school brilliantly! We are so proud of them.
Have a glorious weekend,

Emma Emson

News

Football

Today, the Year 5 and 6 boys’ football team visited Bradley Football Centre for the National League Trust Under 11s Inter Schools Cup. The team did fantastically well and reached the quarter finals, playing really well against Woodlands (5-0), Wybers Wood (2-0) and St Martin’s (1-0) but were knocked out by New Waltham on penalties. The staff who took the team said they were excellent ambassadors for our school; the behaviour, attitude and effort was exemplary. Well done boys!

Check this newsletter later in the week for photographs.

This term’s reading prize

This term the prize for reading 3 times a week, (and having those 3 reads clearly written in your reading diary) will be a disco. The disco will be on Friday afternoon next week. Different year groups will be going into the disco at different times. Children will be wearing their uniforms to the disco.

We are incredibly impressed with the amount of children who are reading more at home now as they are working towards the reward. We would like to say a massive ‘Thank you’ to parents for supporting their children with reading at home. If children are readers their life chances improve and this is our ultimate goal.

Bikeability

On Monday and Tuesday, Year 5 children will be taking part in the cycling proficiency, Bikeability. If you have hired a bike an email has gone out about this. All bikes brought to school need to be carefully put into the bike shed. Please remember to bring a cycle helmet and jacket or coat. All children who have signed up for Bikeability have been accepted on the course.

Safeguarding and Well-being

Internet Safety

Some pupils have been using Snapchat, an app which you need to be 13 to sign up for and we have had some issues with inappropriate use of social media. Please read below for a parent’s guide to Snapchat.

Compass Go, Mental Health Support Team

School are working in partnership with Compass Go (Mental Health Support Team) to support the wellbeing of children, young people and their families.
Compass Go are a new mental health support team who will be working together with your school to help support children and young people’s emotional wellbeing.  As part of this support, they will be looking at how they can help parents/carers to understand the types of mental health and emotional wellbeing difficulties their children may encounter and how best to support them.
They would really appreciate your views on what support you would find helpful, please click the following link to express your views regarding this matter –  https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/3DJ7WYQ

Parking on Yellow Lines

Please can we remind parents that is is against the law to stop on the yellow lines in front of school. It creates hazards for children and parents entering and leaving the school grounds and causes congestion around the school. We have a large car park, which can be accessed through John Whitgift Academy.

Riding Bikes in School

Please can children come off their bikes and scooters within school grounds to avoid accidents.

Jewellery

Earrings – No-earrings except small studs are allowed in school. We have had a small number of children with hoop earrings in school. These present a Health and Safety risk to the children. If we deem that your child’s earrings are unsafe we will ask the child to remove them or telephone parents to ask them to remove them. No jewellery is to be worn in school including friendship bracelets.

No earrings at to be worn for PE.

If you are getting your child’s ears pierced, please get them done during the summer holidays so they can take part in PE lessons.
